Cleveland
Schoolhouse / Teacherage
This 2-room schoolhouse/teacherage, located near Madison, SC, is currently being relocated to the Foothills Farmstead in Oakway, SC. The black & white photo (above) is as it appeared in 1923. Even though rooms have been added over the years, the original rooms are largely still intact. Thus, we will be disassembling the structure and then reassembling it in its original form.

The building has been donated the the farmstead by the Cleveland Fire Department which is across the road. In order to make all of this happen, we need your help! Expenses mainly include labor costs for numbering, deconstructing, moving and reconstructing but also include waste and cleanup costs. If you are able to help, please click the "Donate" button above and list "Schoolhouse" as the "Project." To mail a check, please use the address listed at the bottom of this website (be sure to designate "schoolhouse" on your check).

We are also in need of more photos and history of this structure in this community. If you have either, please contact us with the form below or email at info@oldoakway.com.

Here are some photos of the progress so far:
(1st photo) As we remove the sheetrock, the original v-groove wall boards are exposed. This is one of 3 original rooms, 2 of which share a chimney with a fireplace in each room.

(2nd photo) The other large room is seen here with fireplace on the left and original 2 (of 4) windows on the right.
